Life Legacy
Dorothy M. Schlesselman, 88, of Concordia, MO, died Sunday, September 2, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 6, 2012 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Concordia with Rev. R. Lee Hagan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Concordia. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, St. Paul’s Lutheran Grade School, or Lutheran Good Shepherd Home. An online guestbook is available at www.campbell-lewis.com
Born May 20, 1924 in Corder, MO, she was the daughter of the late Edward Nienhueser and Anna Wagner Nienhueser. On January 20, 1946, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alma, MO, she married Vernon H. Schlesselman, who preceded her in death on November 16, 1998. Dorothy farmed with her husband on their dairy farm northeast of Concordia, as well as being a homemaker. In 1987 they moved into Concordia where she lived the remainder of her life. She was an active volunteer at Lutheran Good Shepherd Home and a volunteer for American Red Cross. Dorothy was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, St. Paul’s Ladies Aid #3, American Legion Post 258 Auxiliary, and Lutheran Good Shepherd Home Auxiliary.
She is survived by two sons, David Schlesselman and wife Amy of St. Peters, MO, Don Schlesselman and wife Beth of Concordia, MO; three daughters, Karol Meyer and husband Curtis of Concordia, MO, Kathy Frerking and husband Kenny of Concordia, MO, Joyce Kroll and husband John of Hebron, NE; son-in-law, Roger Zimmerschied and wife Connie of rural Sweet Springs; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leonard (Pete) Nienhueser and Roland Nienhueser, both of Alma, MO; two sisters, Velma Hinck of Concordia, MO and Gertrude Rolf of Higginsville, MO; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Zimmerschied; a daughter-in-law, Gaye Schlesselman; one brother, Bill Nienhueser; and one sister, Laura Lovercamp.
