Biography

Leland H. Harris, 83, of rural Miami, MO, died Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 25, 2012, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with Rev. Pam Sebastian officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials may be made to The Living Center in Marshall. Born December 19, 1928, in Marshall, he was the son of the late H. Marvin Harris and Kathleen Mullins Harris. On December 23, 1950, he married Nell Jane Wilson, who survives of the home. He was a lifetime farmer and for many years he helped local farmers as a dozer operator. In 1998 he received the Contractor of the Year Award presented by the Saline County Soil and Water Conservation District. He had 27 years of service as Deputy Sheriff for the Saline County Sheriff’s Department Reserve Unit. He belonged to the Trap Shooters Association for many years. He loved to fish, hunt, trap shoot, and spend quality time with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Charles Leland Harris and wife Laura “June” of Slater, MO, Stephen Wilson Harris and wife Janice of Independence, MO and James Richard Harris and wife Trinket of Miami, MO; 12 grandchildren, Cainan Harris, Jacque Dryer, Katrina Morrow , Chas Harris, Megan Harris, Christine Sanders, Libby Rock, Sam Wiseman, Scott Wiseman, Eric Harris, Abbey Hemeyer and Reannen Harris; 15 great-grandchildren; and one niece, Melody Eddy of Miami.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Leonard Harris; and two grandsons, Kip Ambrose Harris and Caleb Lane Harris.
