Biography

Grace Joy Mason, 85, of Marshall, MO, died Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 3, 2012, at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Marshall with Rev. James A. Snyder and William W. Harlow officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 4,2012 at St. Joseph Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Joseph, MO. Memorials may be made to Community Cancer Center of Marshall or Covenant Presbyterian Church in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Born November 18, 1926, in Manila, Philippine Islands, and becoming a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1974, she was the daughter of the late Fred Sander and Ruth Booker Sander. She was a 1943 graduate of Central High School in Kansas City and a 1946 graduate of Central Missouri State College where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority. On January 28, 1947, she married Robert William Mason who preceded her in death on September 29, 1977. She had lived in Marshall since February of 2005, moving from St. Joseph, where she had lived for 35 years. She was a caseworker and supervisor for the Division of Family Services for 22 years. She had served as a Cub Scout pack mother, a 4-H leader and Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a member of ABWA, ARMSE, and Monday Club.

Survivors include four children, William Mason and wife Linda of Rolla, MO, Kathy McGraw and husband Randy of Marshall, Paul Mason and wife Sandy of Chandler, AZ and Mary Sautter and husband Sam of Sarasota, FL; seven grandchildren: Kevin R. Mason and wife Jenny, Kelley R. Koob and husband Perry, Kristin N. Mason, Chad M. McGraw and wife Crystal, Erin M. McGraw, Joshua R. Mason and wife Caitlin, and Ian C. Mason; eight great-grandchildren: Britney, Kayla, and Brock Mason, Carol Ann, Matthew, and Kaitlyn Koob, and Connor and Carlee McGraw.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson in infancy, Brent Patrick McGraw.
