Shirley Jean Hemme, 72, of Independence, MO, died Thursday, July 19, 2012 at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2012 at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Concordia, MO, with William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Sweet Springs. Shirley was born April 1, 1940 in Beaufort, SC, the daughter of the late Francis Edward Hudson and Vernie Laura Bailey Hudson. On March 10, 1962 she married Charles Ronnie Hemme, who survives of the home. She had lived in the Independence area for many years and was a homemaker. As well as caring for her family, Shirley cleaned homes, baked and decorated numerous cakes, and loved crafts.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Charles Edward Hemme and wife Paula of Independence; one daughter, Karla Jean Paxton of Blue Springs; four grandchildren: Cody Hemme and wife Alaina, McKinzie Hemme, Heather Paxton, and Ryan Paxton; one sister, Virginia Prevatt of Statesboro, GA; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Wilma and Junior Krause of Independence, Charlene and Wallace Bredehoeft of Sweet Springs, John and Sharon Hemme of Buckner, Marty and Don Heermann of Blue Springs, Gene and Janet Sims of Oak Grove; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Francis Alfred Hudson and Johnnie Eugene Fender; and one sister, Nettie Mae Stanley.
