Biography

Sam Davis, 80, of rural Sweet Springs, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at Mar-Saline Manor in Marshall.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Smith Chapel United Methodist Church near Marshall, with Rev. Barry Baugh officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial with military rites will be in Smith Chapel Cemetery. Born January 7, 1932, near Napton, MO, he was the son of the late Joseph B. Davis, Jr. and Hortense Woodsmall Davis. On July 13, 1995, he married Doris Peterman Allen who survives of the home. He had lived in Saline County his entire life, was a farmer and a member of Smith Chapel United Methodist Church where he held various positions within the church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of Malta Bend American Legion Post 558. He served on the Napton School Board, Farm Bureau Board and Smith Chapel Cemetery Board. He was an ASCS county committeeman and a member of Ozark Winnebago Club.

In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Marilyn Ahrens and husband Darrell of rural Marshall, Patsy Dehn and husband Roger of rural Marshall and Carol Tieman and husband Tom of rural Alma, MO; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, Barbara Snyder and husband Greg of rural Green City, MO and Paul Allen and wife Jennifer of rural Sweet Springs; four step-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter; one sister, Nora Thomas and husband Jim of rural Marshall; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter in infancy, Debbie Davis; three brothers, John B. Davis in infancy, Joseph W. Davis, Sr. and Thomas W. (Tom) Davis; and one sister, Lillian Johnson.
