Verena Heaper, 96, of Concordia, MO, died Thursday, May 10, 2012 at The Lutheran Nursing Home in Concordia.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 14, 2012 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Emma with Pastor Rick Swanson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church or The Lutheran Nursing Home in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home. Born March 9, 1916 in Sweet Springs, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Hemme and Clara Schelp Hemme. On October 22, 1936 she married Irvin Heaper who preceded her in death on October 11, 1982. She had lived in the Emma and Concordia areas her entire life. She retired from Sweet Springs R-7 School where she was a cook in the cafeteria for many years. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and its Dorcas Society, Weber Extension Club, and had served as a 4-H leader.

Survivors include one son, Larry W. Heaper and wife Sherry of Higginsville; one daughter, Sharon Kay Combs and husband Jim of Independence; four grandchildren: Amy Lynn Heaper and David Wayne Heaper, both of Higginsville, and Nerissa Monique Combs and Darren Woodson Combs and wife Rachel, all of Independence; two great-grandsons, Dakota Woodson Combs and Paydon Lee Combs; along with nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by twin grandchildren, Steven Wayne Heaper and Carla Jean Heaper; two brothers, Raymond Hemme and LaRoy Hemme; and one sister, LaVerna Meyer.
