Biography

Ruth Faries, 99, of Marshall, MO, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at her home.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011, at First Baptist Church in Marshall, with Rev. Wayne Doolin and Rev. Vernon Maxted officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or Fitzgibbon-Mary Montgomery Hospice. Friends may sign the online register book at www.campbell-lewis.com

Born June 5, 1911, in Harrisburg, IL, she was the daughter of the late Marion Curry and Harriet Hughes Curry. On June 20, 1929, she married Arlie Faries who preceded her in death on September 13, 1981. She had lived in Marshall the last 40 years, moving from Wood River, IL, and was a homemaker and a caregiver for many years. She and Arlie managed the Marshall Hotel when they moved to Marshall. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marshall and was also a member of Gold Star Mothers in Illinois, an organization of mothers who lost a son in the service.

Survivors include her children, Alta Rhine and husband Dale of Godfrey, IL, Jane Oeth of Marshall, Jimmy Faries and wife Judy of Wood River, IL, Betty Sexton of Bethalto, IL, Wanda Greer and husband Art of Edwardsville, IL and Junior Faries and wife Paulette of Alton, IL; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Marion D. Faries who was killed in the Korean Conflict, one grandson, Marion R. Faries, one sister, Minnie Chambers, one brother, Sherman Hughes, and two sons-in-law, Ira (Tonsie) Oeth and Delmar Sexton.
