William (Bill) R. Pointer

William R. (Bill) Pointer, 81, of Marshall, MO, died Saturday, July 17, 2010, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at First Baptist Church in Marshall, with Rev. Bill Cook and Rev. Vernon Maxted officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials may be made to New Salem Baptist Church or Community Cancer Center in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Friends may sign the online register book at www.campbell-lewis.com

Born September 8, 1928, in Saline County, MO, he was the son of the late Huston Homer Pointer and Katie Margaret Watters Pointer. On October 27, 1949, he married Gladys Ruth Alexander who survives of the home. He was a farmer living his entire life in Saline and Pettis counties. He was a member of New Salem Baptist Church at Marshall Junction where he served as a deacon and was also a trustee for Millers Chapel Cemetery.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Larry D. Pointer and wife Marva Jo of rural Miami, MO; daughter-in-law, Lyle Pointer of Marshall; five grandchildren, Jason, Angela, Melissa, Jillian and Andrew Pointer; two great-grandsons, Cade William Pointer and Kelar Grayson Pointer; five brothers, Homer Pointer of Marshall, Lloyd Bentley of rural Marshall, John Pointer of Marshall, Jim Pointer of rural Marshall and Ted Pointer of Marshall; one sister, Frances Davis of rural Napton, MO; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Gary Pointer; three brothers, Henry, Joe and Roy Pointer; and one sister, Margaret Farnell.
