Maxine Surber, 83, of rural Marshall, died Monday, March 8, 2010, at University Hospital in Columbia, MO.
Graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall, with William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Memorials may be made to Saline Animal League. Born March 24, 1926, in Marshall, she was the daughter of the late Boyd E. Hanes and Sadie Howard Hanes. On December 26, 1942, she married James Frederick Surber, Sr. who preceded her in death on July 16, 2002. She had lived in Marshall her entire life and had worked at Lake City Arsenal, ConAgra Foods and Joan’s Drive-In. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy Breshears and Connie Allison both of rural Marshall; one son, James F. (Freddy) Surber, Jr. of rural Marshall; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one brother, Jack R. Hanes of Marshall; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Boyd E. Hanes, Jr., and one sister, Bonnie Marie Davis.
