Raymond A. (Ray) Holsten, 84, of Alma, MO, died Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alma with Pastor Fred Hertwig officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran School or The Lutheran Hour in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home. Born August 31, 1925 in Concordia, he was the son of the late Julius Holsten and Bertha Hinck Holsten. On May 16, 1948, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Emma, he married Ruth Wienberg who preceded him in death on September 8, 1997. Ray had lived in the Lafayette county area most of his life where he was a 1944 graduate of Concordia High School. He was involved in the insurance industry during his career and retired in 1990 as President of Lutheran Benevolent Insurance. He had lived in Alma since 1965 where he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Alma Lion’s Club. Ray was very involved in various church activities on the District and Synod levels of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
Survivors include three children: Donna Holsten of Olathe, KS, Terry Holsten and wife Nancy of Concordia, Mary Holsten Gash and husband Mark of Olathe, KS; six grandchildren: Cameron Holsten and wife Jennifer, Kendall Holsten, Ian Gash, Quinn Gash, Timothy Oetting and wife Stacy, Jakolin Ahlemeyer and husband Mike; four great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Leland Holsten; and one brother in infancy.
