John S. Pelot, 84, of Columbia, MO, died Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at his home.
Graveside services with military rites will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2010, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall, MO, with The Rev. Doug Phillips officiating. Pallbearers will be Robin Mull, Angelo Aslanidis, Paul Richard, Harvey Petersen and Emmanuel Oyelola. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Memorials may be made to Centerpoint Church in Columbia. Friends may sign the online register book at www.campbell-lewis.com
Born September 27, 1925, in Marshall, MO, he was the son of the late Frank L. Pelot and Marian Suggett Pelot. He was a graduate of University of MO-Columbia and a U.S. Army Infantryman earning two bronze stars and a purple heart. On August 26, 1950, he married Betty L. Miears who preceded him in death in 2005. On May 25, 2006, he married Barbara Houston Moore who survives of the home. He had lived in Columbia the past three and a half years, moving from Overland Park, KS, and was a retired insurance executive from Employers Reinsurance Corporation. He was a member of Forum Christian Church in Columbia, University of Missouri Alumni Association, University Club and Marshall High School Alumni Organization. He was co-founder of Community Living Opportunities in Overland Park, KS, an organization for developmentally disabled persons.
Additional survivors include his children, Steven M. Pelot of Baldwin, KS, Gayle P. Thompson of Overland Park, KS and James J. (Jim) Pelot of Overland Park, KS; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Frank L. Pelot of San Diego, CA.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Kay Hatfield Pelot.
