Biography

Wendell H. (Smoothie) Thomas, 76, of Concordia, MO, formerly of Marshall, died Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Carroll County Hospital in Carrollton.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at Bethel United Church of Christ in Concordia with visitation one hour prior to the service. Inurnment with full military rites will be in Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville. Born July 25, 1933 in Marshall, he was the son of the late Harrison Tobias Thomas and Opal Skinner Thomas. On December 28, 1991 he married Sammie who survives of the home. He lived in Concordia the last 20 years where he attended Bethel United Church of Christ, but spent many years in Marshall where he was a 1951 graduate of Marshall High School. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, retiring in 1971, and had served in Korea and Vietnam. Following his retirement he worked in retail sales for many years, including 10 years at Rose and Buckner Men’s Clothing in Marshall. He was a member of Blackburn American Legion Post 478 and Concordia V.F.W. Post 5649.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Trish Fisher of Columbus, OH, Mike Thomas of San Diego, CA and Laura McNemar of Reno, NV; step-children: Jason Adcox of St. Joseph, Vanessa Loges of Concordia and Angela Kamp of Blue Springs; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond Wayne Thomas of Marshall; along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Vikki Rolfe, and a sister in infancy.
